Hello.
Look to what a wonderful place I have made it
It's called Hermannsburg - yes it sounds German, because it is German! But there, the soil is red, I am not in Germany. Hermannsburg is a little aboriginal community about 125km west of Alice Springs in Central Australia, and it started off as a lutheran mission in 1877, founded by German missionaries coming from the German place Hermannsburg.
After the Larapinta Trail, I was on the hunt for work, so I followed a hint to Hermannsburg, and started working the next day. Luck! Synchronicity?
So what you see on the photo above is my place of employment, most days: The cafe in the Historic Precinct. There I bake and sell scones and apple studel, pies and pasties, coffees and milkshakes....
If there's no work for me at the cafe, I help out in the General Store across the road.
The ancient church in the precinct with its ghost gums, at sunset time.
Most of the buildings date back to the 19th century. Old German buildings in the middle of Australia.
Pusscat!
Beautiful ringneck parrots hanging out behind the kitchen every day.
The local indigenous peoples in Hermannsburg call the place Ntaria, and their tribe is Western Aranda. They own a lot of horses, but let them roam free. That's why around Ntaria, there are heaps and heaps of semi-wild horse mobs - you can always find some around the waterhole, and sometimes they are trotting along the main road early in the morning. They are so gorgeous!
I live in an on trailer and I love it! I got a bathroom with hot shower, I got air-con, a fridge, freezer, TV and DVD player - haven't had such luxury in a station wagon! AND: I have a kitten ;)
On a weekend I went out camping in Palm Valley, a wonderful gorge near Hermannsburg with palms growing in the Finke River bed that are remnants from prehistoric ages and very rare.
